The Goal: Integral Humanity
We scrupulously analyze any situation or any character, then act them out and experience them, and they remain in a person. Tens or perhaps hundreds of such characters comprise the communicative mechanism that enables a person to connect to the world. A person becomes multi-faceted and multi-layered in his understanding of any person, and can therefore make contact with anyone.
This understanding is not in order to manipulate people or to find profit from communicating with them, nor is it for finding a convenient, egoistic way to position one’s “I” by the principle of “a lady who’s pleasant in all respects.”
We say that the most important thing is a person’s ability to bring every character to life in his “I.” That is how he will come in contact with all of humanity, creating a single whole. Then, each of us will create a “field” of characters around him, by which we will achieve the integral humanity.
That is how the human society gradually develops to the point where every person is comprised of all the people who exist. Also, this process is not difficult. Psychologists know that there are not that many prototypes of people. How many have psychologists enumerated?
– Twenty.
– So what’s the problem? If a person adopts these characters, through them he will be able to understand and come into contact with any person. He will understand me too. He will see me in a good light and will be well-disposed toward me. Thus, we will evoke a good, favorable integration in the world.
– Who should teach children acting? Can famous actors be invited to do it? Or, can children be instructed by other children who are 2 or 3 years older?
– I don’t think that older kids will be able to manage this process. This kind of work requires a mature individual. I am sure that even the best actors and directors won’t be able to direct the work in our classrooms unless they understand our objectives. Professional mastery is not so important to us.
First of all, every action made by our educators has to have a clear objective: to understand the friends, unite with them in the right way, and create a common whole with them.
An outsider won’t be able to help us because these tasks are simply not in his field of vision. The most important thing for a professional actor is a convincing, realistic act. But that doesn’t matter to us. Not every child will be able to express himself fully and poignantly. And this is not necessary.
But instead, our children will gradually begin to understand what they should aspire to and what opportunities are opening up to them. They will bring their desire to its logical completion and will begin to understand one another.
They remember their natural behavior in a specific situation, and each of them plays the role of his friend. After that they return to their initial characters and reproduce their natural behavior.
For example, I blame you for something and you blame me. Now each of us has to play the role of the opponent. Then I once again return to my natural qualities, acting out the initial situation.
Children collect all these images inside of them and discuss how it will help them to unite, to become an integral humanity.
I begin to understand the nature of my friend, and he begins to understand mine. That is how we ascend above our nature and decide how we can unite all of our qualities. The conclusion of this discussion is the most important part of our work.
Every person has to include the whole world within him.
