88- The War Against Amalek
“And it came to pass that when Moses raised his hands, Israel prevailed.” They asked, “Do Moses’ hands make war?” Answer: “When Israel look up, they prevail” (Rosh Hashanah 29a).
Interpretation: “Looking up” means to bestow. “Looking” means seeing that the matter is fine, as it is written about Joseph and Benjamin, “And I shall cast my eyes,” meaning watch over him and benefit him.
It is as Nachmanides wrote, that when looking toward the heaven, when wanting to please the heaven, called “in order to bestow,” it means “This one rises.” In other words, if everything is for the sake of the Creator, Amalek, which is the will to receive, falls, when they look up and enslave their hearts to their Father in heaven.
