The Sulam [Ladder] Commentary on The Zohar, Pekudei
“Smoke is a mixture of fire and darkness.” “Fire” is regarded as “female judgments,” and darkness is “male judgments.” “Darkness” is those who cling to the left line before it connects to the right. They become dark, meaning that the lights have become darkness.
“Fire” is female judgments, meaning that the quality of judgment is revealed.
“Shadow” is the judgment in their beginning, when the judgment in them is not apparent and it is considered that there is only a “shadow” of judgments there.
