322- Concerning Choice
Tav-Shin-Lamed-Het 1977-78
How is it possible to speak of choice, since courthouses punish for transgressions “not to do,” and there are the “four deaths of the courthouse,” and whipping and flogging. Conversely, on choice there is a reward, meaning what reward he wants for the labor in Torah and Mitzvot [commandments]. At that time, a person chooses whether he wants the reward for the labor to be for his own sake or for the sake of the Creator, meaning to the not-in-order-to-receive-reward.
