Efforts Lead To Understanding
Efforts to understand what is written invite the Light and develop the spiritual Kli inside us. While reading, I should make an effort to search for the roots. We read in the language of the branches, but we should locate and visualize the roots. This effort raises and develops me. Thus we have to make these efforts and not just hear the words.
As it says in the Introduction to Talmud Eser Sefirot, Item 155: The efforts to understand what is written, although one doesn't understand, is what leads to understanding. The efforts are what brings the Light that Reforms, and when we have corrected vessels we will understand.
