Donkey Driver  

What is the familiar "donkey driver" from the book of The Zohar?

If a person wants to walk on the path of spirituality and he understands that bestowal is more important than reception, then in spite of that he still doesn't have the nature of the attribute of bestowal. Therefore he is in need of a foreign force that can assist him. This is called the "donkey driver."

This is what The Zohar tells us: A man has a donkey (the ego) and on his back there is a load (the heaviness of the work of bestowal). The man wants to advance on the path; his donkey doesn't want to walk, and the load is heavy. So then in order to advance, the man needs help from a foreign force. This force which is called the donkey driver is actually the Creator and if the man puts Him in the front and walks behind him, then He leads him on his way.

The System Is a Simple One    

One always should be in a state of ascension, in the direction of the new level.

After I determined that this level is the most important, i.e., bestowal, connection, love, unity, good and does good, and that I am in connection, now I must immediately try to locate the importance of the ego, but this is if I relate to it correctly. I must locate the new ego, the new desire to receive, which must be revealed in the next level. It is within me, the Reshimot (reminiscences) are there. I only need to now work with them.

The system is a simple one. One always needs to rise, i.e., that here is reception and there is bestowal above the reception. Above reception is called "faith above reason." And what will be in the next level, what you attained as faith, it transforms itself to be ego, reason. And then comes the next stage and spoils it, and again you need to start to rise.

And then it seems to you that everything is spoiled, that what you attained has gone. No, this is now the new level; you are now in a new ego, a new reception, which you need to ascend above.
