Giving people the illusion of a way to escape is not helping …
I was asked if I am excited by the Mars colonization hype, powered by tech billionaires such as Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.
Well, I’m not. And here is why.
First of all, be sure that there is more than enough room for all of us to live on our current planet. Our problem is not the need for more space or resources. Our problem is how to live with each other. And if we can’t do it well on the blue planet, we won’t do it well on the red planet either.
Let me make it clear: I’m completely supportive of scientific research in outer space, setting up new labs where possible, exploring and gathering new knowledge. But there is a world of difference between that and the idea of gradually moving mankind to Mars.
Humanity needs to be saved from itself, not from the planet it is living on. To that end, we have to learn how to positively connect with each other right here and now. Otherwise, our life will be just as full of misery on Mars as it is here. War, ecological destruction, economic inequality, corruption and all the rest will easily follow us anywhere we go, Mars included.
That being said, human beings are indeed going to move to a new dimension, but not a physical one and not on a rocket. We are going to expand and evolve our perception to capture a whole new layer of reality that is currently hidden to us, even though it’s right under our noses.
“Over 40 years of studying human nature and human connection through the authentic wisdom of Kabbalah have taught me that nature has designed the perfect conditions for us to evolve as human beings, including being here on the face of Earth. Our next mission is to travel into the connected space of humanity.”
We won’t need multi-billion dollar budgets to do it. It is going to take a different kind of effort: exploring the natural binding force that connects all of humanity to a single integrated system. When we begin to travel into the inner space rather than the outer space, we will discover that we are, in fact, interconnected pieces of the same creature. We will connect to the collective mind and heart of humanity.
So, whether it’s Bezos, Musk and other modern-day futurists or illustrious authors of the past such as Issac Asimov and Jules Verne, they may present beautiful depictions of humanity going boldly where no one has gone before; but none of them answers the only question that can truly take us to a new dimension: what is the purpose of the human being?
